When Don Pancho came to Panama to distill in 1980, he kept the first barrel of the first batch he ever made outside of Cuba. Instead of taking this cask to the warehouse, he took it to his office, wherever this office was. So instead of aging in a hot and humid warehouse, this cask rested through the years in a chill ambiance for 38 Years. This unorthodox method of aging, helped to develop the aromas, flavors and complexity of the Reserva Francisco Jose 38-Year-Old Rum.
A couple of years ago, his business partner, Carlos Esquivel, asked Don Pancho to open the cask and he refused to do it. But when he turned 80, he decided to open it and poured the rum into a wonderful handmade decanter.
This is a one cask only product with a limited bottling of only 240 bottles. Most of it has already gone. Each bottle is hand signed by Don Pancho himself.
Don Pancho age dates his rums with the youngest barrels, delivering a true 38 year old rum. No additives, no coloring. No compromises.
