“A plump, friendly style, with a core of green melon, pippin apple and fennel notes that glides throughout, picking up a mineral edge on the fresh finish. Has some stuffing and should stretch out with modest cellaring.” Wine Spectator
The Domaine de la Rouletière is located in the Vouvray appellation area. The vineyard is close to Tours and the chateaux of the Loire valley. The Vouvray appellation d’origine controlee is set on the right bank of the Loire Valley (classified as a world UNESCO World Heritage site). The appellation begins on the East limits of Tours city and covers 7 municipalities.
The development of the vineyard and the introduction of the Chenin grape variety are attributed to Saint Martin, together with the origin of the construction of the renowned Marmoutier Abbey.
The vineyard covers the freestone (Turonian limestone) hillsides, interspersed with confluent valleys and covered with “perruche” (flint clay that produces its mineral character) and “arbuis” (calcareous clay soil that contributes to the power of the sweet wines).
At the heart of the vineyard, the Domain possesses a magnificent two-story cellar that has been carved out by the Gilot family over many generations: 800 square metres of galleries set in freestone. This cellar is the fruit of the work and the pride of a family that is passionate about their profession and the desire to share their savoir-faire. It is in these troglodyte galleries that their Vouvray still and sparkling wines are produced.
The vinification process takes place on the property and the wines are stored in the cellar to best preserve the quality of the production. The Domaine de la Rouletière produces 15 000 bottles of Vouvray Nature (still) and 60 000 bottles of Vouvray Méthode Traditionnelle (sparkling) per year.
