“From a vineyard site in La Morra, the Voerzio Martini 2016 Barolo La Serra shows soft and silky renderings with delicate fruit and berry tones that move smoothly over to tar, white licorice and tarry road paving. This wine shows a classic set of Nebbiolo aromas, all backed by the more graceful tannic structure that often comes with wines from La Morra. These qualities put the wine in a solid medium-term drinking window, meaning you can pop the cork in a few years or wait later to drink this release of 5,000 bottles (300 magnums).
Twins Mirko and Federica Martini purchased the Gianni Voerzio winery in La Morra from their cousin in 2015. The estate name changed from Gianni Voerzio to Voerzio Martini and a renewal process was initiated to enlarge the winery and add new vineyards. In 2015, the twins purchased an additional hectare and a half in the La Serra cru, and in 2018, the pair acquired a quarter hectare of vines in Monvigliero and a half hectare in Cerequio. They also introduced a new white wine, a Timorasso, made with fruit from a leased vineyard in the Colli Tortonesi area. Mirko is the winemaker and Federica manages the office.” Robert Parker 94 Points
