40.8% ABV, 750 ml, Petite Champagne
“The mild, fresh aroma suggests white flowers and fresh-cut pear, while the palate reflects those gentle floral-fruit notes coupled with honey and vanilla, finishing with a delicate whiff of smoke. Gift this almost whiskey-like Cognac to a Scotch-lover. Petite Champagne region, made 100% from Ugni Blanc grapes.” 95 Points Wine Enthusiast
Augier is quite probably the very first Cognac house, started by wine merchant Philippe Augier in 1643. Since 2013, it’s been in the hands of Pernod Ricard, who seeks to make a Cognac as true to the original style of this historic house as possible by focusing on grape and terroir. Imbibe magazine said, “This is cognac for geeks. But it’s also cognac for people who want to taste cognac made with different varieties, or with different types of distillation.” Le Sauvage is made from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the chalky soils of Petite Champagne. It’s complex with stone fruit notes and a nice hint of spice.
