Made from 100% Baco
One of our favorite Negociants in the Armagnac world is Francis Darroze. His specialty is buying brandy from small producers scattered around Gascony, and finishing the brandy is his cellars. They are all bottled at cask strength, and bottled as vineyard designated, vintage-dated Armagnacs. Each one is a masterpiece.
The older Armagnacs are constructed from 100% Bacco, a grape known more for its bass, producing a full-bodied and “fat” Armagnac. The Bacco of Gascony is slowly being phased out—“hybrid” grapes like Bacco soon will no longer be allowed in the AOC region.
Tasting Notes from the Producer
Orangey golden colour, with brown tints. The nose is still very fresh for an Armagnac of this age. Matured fruit flavours (quince, apple) on the first nose, while the second nose is marked by dried fruits (walnuts, almonds). On the palate, the balance is perfect, a sign that the ageing process has been perfectly controlled. High quality of tannins. Long on the palate.
