This special release was created to Honor Nicolas Potel’s father, Francoise Potel.
“This is tightly wound, with a mineral underpinning and bright acidity defining the black cherry, black currant and stone flavors. Though compact now, it’s balanced and long, with a fresh finish.”
“Bellene” is the name for the village of Beaune through the Middle Ages, and Nicolas Potel has chosen this brand name in reference to this city, historically linked with wine and famous for its diviersity of terroirs.
___________
The Domaine de Bellene was born in 2005, following the proposal of certain winegrowers, stopping their activity, to exploit their vines in the form of rent. The desire to master the entire production sector, from the vineyard to the marketing of wines, with a view to very high quality was decisive in the creation of this winery. The time to find the real estate structure, acquired in 2006 rue du Faubourg Saint Nicolas in Beaune, to restore the buildings dedicated to production while respecting “High Environmental Quality” standards, to enlarge the existing plot by purchasing vines, to invest in efficient winemaking equipment that respects the integrity of the grapes (all stainless steel thermoregulated vats, non-crushing destemmer, vibrating sorting table, sorting conveyor belt, stainless steel tubs allowing vatting by gravity, pneumatic horizontal press, vertical ratchet press, all stainless steel hydraulic vertical press, etc.), 2007 marks the first vinification of the estate.
13.85 ha formed the initial plot extending from Santenay to Côtes de Nuits Villages with 3 major centers in the Saint-Romain, Beaune and Savigny-Les-Beaune appellations. Conducted from the start in organic farming, we have always sought to work the vines with respect for the terroir so that at the harvest, the grapes are of very high quality, both health and phenological.
