Text from the Whiskey Wash: “The Umiki Japanese whisky blend is a new Japanese spirit recently to emerge from this whisky making island nation. It pays homage to both the ocean that surrounds it and the long living pine trees that grace Japan’s coasts through the use of these elements in its production process.
Umiki, according to those behind it, is made from “filtered, desalinated ocean-water from the depths of the Pacific Ocean” that’s blended with ” Japanese ocean-side distilled malt whiskies” and imported grain whiskies after finishing the “curation in Japanese pine barrels.”
Plans call for this expression, whose name Umi means Ocean and Ki means Tree in Japanese, to initially be available in North American, Asian markets in April and rest global markets after May and onwards.
Very limited official tasting notes suggest this whisky has “an exceptional smoothness with sea-breeze on the nose, rounded floral taste on the palate and a soothing freshness in the finish. ” It should be noted as well it has already been picking up some awards, winning Double Gold Awarded from China Wine & Spirits Awards 2020 and Gold Medal from World Spirits Award 2020.”
